Space shuttle landing. Space Shuttle Endeavour landing at the end of mission STS-111. The parachute deployed behind the shuttle is used to reduce the landing run, reduce the wear on the brakes and provide increased directional stability in cross-wind landings. Mission STS-111 flew from June 5th to June 19th 2002. During the mission, the shuttle delivered equipment to the International Space Station, including parts of the station's mechanical arm. Photographed at Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA. The shuttle was diverted here because of bad weather at the primary landing site, Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA.
