Aerial view of Kilauea Volcano east rift zone erupting hot lava from Fissure 8 in Leilani Estates subdivision near the town of Pahoa. The lava drains downhill as an incandescent river to Kapoho, Puna District, Hawaii Island ( the Big Island ), Hawaiian Islands, Land at lower right is swept by fresh trade winds, so vegetation is alive. Wind carries toxic fumes from lava river across to left, so vegetation on that side is mostly dead.
