, Nancy, Departement Meurthe-et-Moselle, France - A monument to Stanislaw Leszczynski at Place Stanislas in Nancy, France. In the years 1704-09 Stanislaw Leszczynski was King of Poland in lieu of August II the Strong. Even though reelected in 1733, he lost the Polish Succession War and was forced to emigrate. In 1737 he was compensated with the Duchy of Lorraine and Bar, where he contributed a lot to cultural life of the place. Nancy owe him the most beautiful squares in Europe: Place Stanislas, Place de la Carriere and Place d'Alliance. All of them have been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1983.
