SCOTLAND; EDINBURGH; SIR WALTER SCOTT MEMORIAL IN EAST PRINCES STREET GARDENS


The Sir Walter Scott Memorial in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. This Victorian Gothic Monument stand two hundred feet high and has a series of viewing platforms giving panoramic views of central Edin burgh. It is built of Binny sandstone quarried in West Lothian. The designer is George Kemp Between the pillars is a statue of Sir Walter with his dog, quarried in carrara marble The designer was John Steell The foundation stone was laid in 1840 and the work took four years to complete
