Itis a superb animal of a brilliant black color,though some (but these are usually small) arewhite or steel-blue. A Sologne turkey whichattained the enormous weight of forty-fivepounds carried off the highest honors at allthe shows to which he was sent. At Madrid,in 1902, he even had the honor of attracting theattention of the young king and his mother, thequeen regent. During the return journey this a few being sufficient for a flock. It is a realpleasure to see these creatures marchingproudly along, with wings deployed and feathersraised. They advance with the gravity of aruler in the midstof his subjects.
