World Black Pudding Throwing Championships, Ramsbottom, Nr Bury, Lancashire 9th September 2007. The event involves competitors throwing puddings from the Bury Black Pudding Company, which have been swaddled in ladies tights at Yorkshire Puddings on a plinth 20 feet above the ground outside the Royal Oak public house in the centre of the town. Competitors stand on the 'Golden Grid' which formerly stood in the car park of Corner Pin pub in the village of Stubbins. The grid was 'removed' when the pub was converted to flats. It is ceremonially paraded into the centre of the town carried on the shoulders of the organisers Lee Gosling and Phil Taylor (he shares the same name as me). This year it had a 'millitary escort ' by local army cadets. The competitor who dislodges the most Yorkshirepuddings is the winner. This year's winner was Paul Rudge, a 42 year old truck driver from Southport. Pictures by © Phil Taylor Tel 07947 390596. Royal Oak, Ramsbottom (01706) 822786 Pudding Throwing explained
