Vintage photo of British Labour politician Arthur Henderson (left) shaking hands with US Secretary of State Frank Billings Kellogg (right) during a trip to the USA in 1925. Henderson (1863 - 1935) was Leader of the Labour Party on three occasions (1908 - 1910, 1914 - 1917 + 1931 - 1932), served as Home Secretary (1924) and Foreign Secretary (1929 - 1931) and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1934 for his work to promote international disarmament. Kellogg (1856 - 1937) was US Secretary of State from 1925 to 1929 and helped negotiate the multinational Pact of Paris in 1928 (also known as the Kellogg-Briand Pact or the General Treaty for the Renunciation of War), a treaty which aimed to prohibit the use of war as an instrument of national policy.
