During periods of high prices for farm products, many growers find it to their advantage to devote more of their time to production problems and allow middlemen to perform the various marketing functions. During periods of low prices, however, they often find it necessary to produce less and devote a larger portion of their time to making direct contacts with consumers and retailers.
