Nanoparticle drug delivery system research. Close-up of a blood-clot mimicking patch designed to deliver drugs at a controllable rate. The drug-releasing microparticles (round) are bound to directionally aligned microfibre formed through a unique electrospinning-electrospraying process. The nanoparticles are 2-6 micrometres thick, and the microfibres are 1 micrometre thick. This work was carried out by researchers at the Midwest Cancer Nanotechnology Training Center (M-CNTC), USA.
