Julia Butterfly (Wings Closed) Dryas julia
JULIA HELICONIAN (Dryas iulia) A brush-footed butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is found in South and Central America, extending north to southern Texas and Florida in the USA. The spiny caterpillar is light brown in colour and feeds on the leaves of passion flowers. Wingspan is from and the butterfly has long, narrow forewings which are coloured orange with black markings - brighter in the male than the female. It is a fast flier and frequents clearings, paths, and margins of forests and woodlands. It feeds on the nectar of flowers such as Lantana and Shepherd’s needle.
