Raman spectroscopy. Researcher using a Raman spectroscope, a device that uses a laser to analyse the structure and properties of materials on the nanometre scale. This instrument has been modified to have a spatial resolution ten times greater than standard Raman spectroscopes. Researchers use this method, known as TERS (tip- enhanced Raman spectroscopy), to analyse single organic and inorganic nanoparticles as well as the wider surface topography (shape) and composition of the material.
