The British Army Tractors Prior To the First World War Aveling and Porter steam tractor. This was employed in the Second Boer War in 1901 and covered some 20000 miles in that year. The officer shown in front of the tractor is thought to be Captain Lyon who was attached to the ASC between 1902 and 1909.
