This cutdivides the mucosa, periosteum and perichondrium, cartilaginous septum andthe perpendicular plate of the ethmoid and leaves in front of it, and separatefrom the rest of the septum, a plate of bone and cartilage reaching from theroot to the tip of the nose, guaranteeing its profile. Step 2.—Subperiosteally excise a wedge of the septum as in the precedingoperation but much farther back. Push the intermaxillary bone into correctposition. Step 3.—Close the hare-lip in the usual manner, using the philtrum nasi toform the cutaneous septum of the nose (Fig. 222)..
