Huge beams at frequentintervals will resist immense ice pressure, and I have little doubt that,besides being a good sailing ship, her form is such as will enable her torise to ice-pressure and thus evade it. A second laboratory, mainlyfor zoology, lies almost immediately below the upper one, tween-decks,and is reached directly from the upper laboratory.
