Maui, Hawaii, Ho‘okipa Board Surfers
Ho‘okipa is a beach on Maui which is one of the best windsurfing areas in the world. It features well-shaped waves breaking over a series of reefs plus strong winds — these make it perfect for windsurfing. As a result, a number of competitions are held here bringing the best windsurfers in the world together here. Additionally, board and body surfers will also join in the fun, being careful to not get in each other's way. This day, the waves were only of moderate size. On occasion, the waves may rise to 30 feet but you have to go just a bit further down the road to Peahi, AKA "Jaws" for the really big rideable waves. BTW, visiting Jaws during big surf is still on my bucket list — guess I'll have to keep visiting my beloved Maui until I get to see and photograph it.
