The historical landmark ruins of the 7th century Abbey of St. Hilda known as Whitby Abbey at Whitby in North Yorkshire, Britain. The Abbey was part of King HenryÕs V111 ÔDissolution of the MonasteriesÕ in the 15th century. On 16th December 1914, the Abbey was shelled by a German battle cruiser - the first such attack on the mainland during the 1st World War.
