A Viking raid under command of Olaf Tryggveson, a figure in Faroer Saga who undertook conversion of Norway to Christianity.

This 1894 illustration shows a Viking raid under the command of Olaf Tryggveson, a figure in the Faroer Saga. Olaf I (c. 903-1000) undertook conversion of Norway to Christianity by force and by persuasion. The Norse are also known as Vikings. They were Scandinavian in origin, and their explorations and raids along the coasts of Europe and the British Isles gave the period from the 8th to the 10th centuries the name Viking Age. They were, at the time, among the best sailors and shipbuilders in the world.
