The Wash sea bank near Holbeach St Mathew

The Wash is a large tidal, bay roughly 20 miles by 20 miles (34km x 34km), in the eastern flank of England, edged on its three landward sides by the Fens which are drained former marshes now converted to highly productive farmland. This farmland is protected from the sea by salt marshes backed by earth banks, of which this a section. The building is an observation post for the bombing range half a mile out where aircraft bomb and strafe a wrecked ship and other targets on the mudflats.
