Hypertension tablets. Blister pack of 1 milligram tablets of the blood vessel widening (vasodilator) drug doxazosin. The packet is marked with the days of the week to aid the taking of them. Doxazosin is taken to decrease high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by blocking the effect of the hormone and neurotransmitter noradrenaline, which constricts blood vessels. Drugs that do this are known as alpha blockers. High blood pressure, if untreated, can result in kidney failure, stroke, and heart attack. This drug can also be used to relieve the obstruction of urine flow that can occur in men with an enlarged prostate gland.
