This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Space weather observation satellites. Computer artwork showing two satellites with the Sun, a solar flare, and Earth's magnetosphere. Solar flares are eruptions in the solar atmosphere. Future mission to study such space weather events, and their effect on the Earth, could involve positioning spacecraft in orbit at the L1 and L5 Lagrangian points. These are points in space where gravitational forces and the orbital motion of the spacecraft, the Sun and Earth interact to create a stable location from which to make observations.
