Blood separation, illustration
Illustration of blood separation in a test tube. Blood is comprised of three main components, haematocrit (red), buffy coat (blue) and plasma (yellow), which can be separated into layers with centrifugation. Haematocrit contains red blood cells, the buffy coat is comprised of white blood cells and platelets, and blood plasma is a mixture of water and everything else in your blood such as proteins and hormones.
