The tunnelis, as before mentioned, about a quarter of a mile in length, througha compact slate rock, which is arched with brick to preserve it fromfuture disintegration by atmospheric action. The fronts or facadesof the arch are of a fine white sand-stone, procured from the summitof the neighboring mountain. The width of the opening within thebrick work of the arch is 21 feet, and the height 20|, affording roomfor two tracks. The height of the hill above the roof of the tunnelis 110 feet. The excavation and embankments adjacent are veryheavy, and consist of the slate rock through which the tunnel is cut. 430 NEW YORK SUBSCRIBERS. M. W. KING. W. n. 466 & 468 BROADWAY, NEW YORK.
