( x cm), Paintings, Tanshin Morimasa (Japanese, 1653–1718), The central scroll depicting the deeply revered Eight Daoist Immortals of ancient China and Japan is flanked by paintings of cranes and monkeys. Five or six of the immortals are easily identifiable. In the foreground are two who are often paired in Japan: Li Tieguai (Ri Tekkai in Japanese), who creates a miniature image of himself by blowing into the air, and Liu Haichan (Gama Sennin), with his mythical toad
