Landscape David Vinckboons (Dutch, 1576-ca. 1633). Landscape, ca. 1620. Oil on panel, 41 x 31 in. ( x cm). In this northern Baroque landscape, a large tree and a green forest floor lead the eye to a glowing city, mountains, and sky. The image is a “world landscape,” a new type of painting, introduced in Renaissance Antwerp, that depicted a panoramic bird’s-eye view. David Vinckboons studied with his father in Antwerp but established his career in Amsterdam. There, he introduced Flemish painting traditions to the newly formed Dutch Republic. European Art ca. 1620
