But there are other causes. Our own peo-ple are awakening. They have come to arealization of the fact that there is no morefavorable locality in the United States forthe estabhshing of manufacturing industriesthan right here in their midst, and they arethemselves rapidly taking advantage of it,.and as a result the city seems to be alivewith new industries. York does not lack. York County 2g capital of its own and does not need to goa-begging. The bank deposits within thiscity alone aggregate over five and a quartermillions of dollars, one-half of which probablyconsists of time deposits drawing of course represents but a small portionof the capital available within the city. Theper capita wealth of the city is large. Hith-erto most of it has been sent out of the townfor investment. We are not dependent uponoutside assistance, though of course such as-sistance is welcome from those desiring tofurnish it. The citys development is chief-ly from within and not, as a result of adver-tisement, from without. Yet outsiders arealready coming to an understanding of theadvantages of York and adding their indus-trial energy, labor and capital to our own. Having referred to the cost of labor andof transportation it now remains to considerthe cost of power as one of the importantelement
