Chevrolat published them perhaps owing to their being adoptedby Dejeau in his Catalogue. 76 Mi-. S. Maulik on Epistictia reicheana, Guirin. remarked that, after examining ten examples in the collectionof the British Museum, I find that (1) the colour of theinsect varies from dark red to light brown, (2) twelve greenspots or patches are always present on each elytron. Reicheanais very dark red and has twelve green spots on each elytronat identical positions ; the dark background almost obscuresthe green spots. As there is no structural difference, onecannot help the conclusion that they are the same species selecta must therefore be a synonym ofGuerius reicheana, the latter having the Epistictia reicheana, from a co-type in the British —E. selecta. There are four examples in the British Museum fromCeylon which Bohoman has called matronula. They areexactly the same as selecta, but only lighter in colour j thenumber and position of the green spots on the elytra are thesame, but they stand out in bold outlines because of thelighter background. This circumstance may lead one tothink, at first sight, that it is a different species. I aminclined to the view that it is only a Ceylonese variety, thedark variety generally occurring in Northern India. Itherefore regard matronula as a lighter variety of illustration of reicheana is added. I thank Dr. Gahan for reading this note.
