Snap melon, Cucumis melo var. momordica, formerly Cucumis momordica, Phut, Phunt in North India, native to arid regions of India mainly Rajasthan, member of family Cucurbitaceae, vine producing oval fruits up to 25 cm long, consumed like cucumber, ripe fruits turning yellowish pink and eaten like melons. Pulp often used as skin moisturizer and for abrasions. Should be harvested before skin turns pale yellow as ripe fruits crack and split or burst irregularly, hence the name.
