JANJANBUREH, THE GAMBIA (19/01/2019) - The Ifangbondi threatens the crowd with a machete, albeit playfully, as the sun sets over the Janjanbureh festival ground. The Janjanbureh Kankurang Festival is part of joint efforts by the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa and the Gambian Youth Empowerment Project to boost tourism in Janjanbureh. By preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage of the Kankurang, it is creating new economic opportunities for young Gambians in the form of increased tourism.
