I wish to get some enlightenment on the subject of fuel. My question is this: Does the moistening of coal with a little water add to the value of the fuel in heating and are any other advantages gained in doing this? I have heard ar- guments pro and con on this problem and have ^decided to put the query to you, believing that you have definite and scientific facts at your command. Does the use of moisture affect hard and soft coal alike? L. F. B.—Wis. While the moistening of coal does not actually add anything to its fuel value, under some conditions the addition of a small amount of water makes it pos- sible to utilize some of the bituminous coals in a more economical manner. This is the case with a coal that gives off its gas too readily, as may happen, especially if it has become extremely dry.
