Elbaite mineral. Elbaite is a mineral of the tourmaline group, chemically a boro-silicate of sodium, lithium and aluminium. It is trigonal with prismatic crystals with a striated surface, in a variety of colours such as green, orange, pinkish-red, yellow and blue. Different colours may occur together in the same crystal group. Elbaite is one of the more desirable tourmaline species for use in jewellery or as a collector's item. This specimen, from Santa Rosa in Minas Gerais, Brazil, is 10 centimetres tall.
