Cesar Milstein (1927-2002), Argentine biochemist, wearing a Medical Research Council lab coat. Milstein shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1984 for his work on antibodies. This work, carried out in 1975, was the development of the hybridoma technique for the production of monoclonal antibodies. This led to many new applications of antibodies in scientific and medical research. Photographed in 1989.
