Spreadfruit goldenbanner (Thermopsis divaricarpa) next to a swift-running mountain stream in Colorado
Goldenbanner, also known as goldenpea, false lupine, or buffalo pea, grows in damp or wet soils of the Rocky Mountain west. It is a rhizomatous forb of the pea family, and spreads from underground roots. The plant is not palatable to livestock and should not be consumed by humans. It is distinguishable from true lupines because the leaves have three palmate leaflets, not five.
