Beforethe close of the war, he had risen to a lieutenant-colonelcy andserved under General Sullivan in the battle of Rhode Island. Inthe final portion of his life he suffered much with rheumatism andat time was obliged to use two canes to get about. During incumbency of the presidency, he received back pensionamounting to $800, and a monthly pension of $40 per month. Hewas 92 years old when he died.
