Received the surrender of Gen. Dick Tay-lors army after the fall of Richmond. Full rank U. S. A., July 28, 1866. After the war hewas command of the Department of the Col-ombia, and was murdered by the Modoc Indians at theLava-Beds in Northern California, April 11, 1873.
