Almost with-out exception they have begun their studies in the Academy San Fernando at Madrid, andhave either gained the grand Prix de Rome, or have been assisted by friends to enter theSpanish Academy at Eome, founded by Emilio Castelar. Theexperiment has never been a successful one, wherever tried, and there is no reason to expecta better result in the case of Spain.
