With the exception of theseacoast, the boundaries of Massa-chusetts are almost entirely art-ificial ; and, when we cast our eyesover the map, we can discovernone of those natural advantages which distinguish most other countries re-markable for prosperity. Massachusetts is a portion of the western continentcontaining no mines of gold, no long navigable rivers, no broad and fertileplains, not even an accessible supply of timber; and a person unacquainted withthe true souice of her power and wealth would be at a loss in seeking for it.
