Lisbon, Portugal - 8 May 2019; three people in view. With a history dating back to prehistoric times, Lisbon is one of Europe and the worldÕs oldest cities. Now the capital of Portugal, it is located on the Atlantic Coast - the only European capital to be thus located - and the banks of the River Tagus. To give it its proper name, the Sanctuary of Christ the King is a Catholic monument and shrine situated in Almada and overlooking the city. It was inspired by the much larger Christ the Redeemer statue of Rio de Janeiro. It was inaugurated in1959, while Portugal was ruled by the fascist dictator of Ant—nio de Oliveira Salazar. His grandiose projects and constructions still litter Lisbon and the entire country.
