'The trowel used by her Majesty [Queen Victoria] was a most artistic and elegant specimen of goldsmith's work, in the pure Italian style. The handle was of rock crystal, inlaid with scrolls of gold and turquoises, and surmounted by the Royal crown in chased gold, set with precious stones, the arched diadems being jewelled with pearls.
