A French ceremonial sword for the court of Louis-Philippe, circa 1835 Hollow triangular thrusting blade with well-preserved gilt etching on a blued background (the forte somewhat stained). Fire-gilded bronze hilt in low relief. The single guard bears the openwork cipher "LPR", for Louis-Philippe Rex, beneath a royal crown on a scroll. Mother-of-pearl grip scales. The pommel in the shape of a crown. Somewhat restored (slightly kinked) leather scabbard with florally engraved, gilt brass mountings. Length 97 cm.
