Scleroderma - index finger sequestration


Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease of the connective tissue. Autoimmune diseases are illnesses which occur when the body's tissues are attacked by its own immune system. Scleroderma is characterised by the formation of scar tissue (fibrosis) in the skin and organs of the body. Scleroderma is classified into diffuse and limited forms. Symptoms include Raynaud's phenomenon (seen here) which has led to index finger sequestration a portion of bone has become detached due to necrosis. Treatment of scleroderma is directed toward the individual features that are most troubling the patient.
