Figure 343 shows the works of one form of safe-lock, used by the Damon Safe and Lock Works; and thoughthis is a cheap lock, it embodies all the essential principles ofevery combination lock. This lock is susceptible of 755,000different combinations, but some bank-locks afford as many as134,000,000 changes. There is absolutely no way to pick such a lock as this,except by ringing the changes, that is to say, by makingsuccessively all the possible combinations, until the right one isfound.
