The statues that have been found burledon the sites of the ancient Greek cities aregenerally faulty in proportion, and the ex-pression on the face is either a blank, orelse frankly comic, as the visitor to theCyprus room in the British Museum can seefor himself. Some of them have got such an extra-ordinary grin on their stony features thatone feels inclined to burst out laughing uponbeing confronted with them.
