With five exceptions but little attention was paidto it, but of the names sent in over one-third became wrote Mr. McClain that the success of the enterprise hungin the balance. He took hold of the matter himself; had hismanagers, in fifty-seven of the leading cities of the UnitedStates and Canada, send in the names of all clansmen in thetelephone directories, and at his own expense, had his stenog-raphers write to all the parties. He sent over fifteen hun-dred letters. Besides all this, personally I am under obligationsto him for the present of a high grade of typewriter instru-ment. Owing to the fact that he was spending his vacation atKoskoka Lakes, he was not apprised of the Gathering, in timeto attend. However, on August 23rd,
