Despite Bahrain's horrific and deteriorating human rights record, Britain still sells large volumes of arms to the regime, over £82m licenced exports since the 2011 pro-democracy rising. Events such as the horse show and the meeting with the Queen serve to legitimise this despotic regimes and whitewash its human rights record.
