Anthropology lab of the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus

, Nicosia, Nicosia, Cyprus - Popi Chrysostomou, Greek Cypriot forensic anthropologist and head of the anthropology lab of the CMP (Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus) in the UN buffer zone. A team of anthropologists, both Greek and Turkish Cypriots work on identifying the victims of the Cyprus conflict 1963/64 and 1974. They put skeletons back together and take DNA samples to be processed by a forensics lab. The mandate of the CMP is divided between three members: Greek Cypriot, Turkish Cypriot and a third member from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who is appointed by the UN secretary general. The CMP is to aid the reconciliation of different ethnic groups in the area and doesn't investigate circumstances of death. GT
