Water wheel house Elvaston Castle Elvaston castle is a grade 2 listed house which was ransacked by the Lancastrians in the war of the roses. It was held by the Stanhopes from the early 1500's before becoming the seat of the Earls of Harrington until 1939. It was the first country park, opened on Good Friday 1970 consisting of 325 acres.
