The celebrated and some of the most distinguished physicians inGreat Britain, were among its original members ; but norecords of its transactions are to be found earlier than the year1737. Such is the importance of this society, that by universalconsent, it is allowed to have contributed greatly to the pro-sperity and reputation of the university, and from the subscrip-tions of gentlemen and others desirous of giving encouragementto so laudable an institution, its advantages are expected to bemore generally ^2
