Pyoderma ulcer on the skin of a 60 year old diabetic man. This is pyoderma gangrenosum, a pus-producing ulcer that is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, one in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. In this case, healing is likely to have been impaired by the patient's diabetes, as that disorder causes impaired blood flow. Treatment is with steroids and immunosuppressant drugs, although it may take many months for the ulcer to heal.
