The Chicopee River washes the entire northern north branch of Mill River, having its source in Nine-mile Pond,drains the north-eastern section; while Scantic Brook and its varioustributaries add to the scenic beauty of South Wilbraham. Rattle-snake Hill, which has an altitude of 1,077 feet, rises grandly on the Con-necticut line. A range of hills extends northerly and centrally fromthis point nearly through the town. The number of inhabitants is3,230; of voters, 526; of dwelling-houses, 424; and of farms, ACADEMY BUILDINGS, WILBRAHAM. The valuation is $841,746; and the rate of taxation, $ per $ principal business of the people is agriculture; but, in addition tothis, there are manufactures of board and writing-papers and woollengoods. There is a large paper-mill at Collins Depot, and another atSouth Wilbraham. There are four woollen-mills, having in all 11 setsof machinery, and employing about 100 persons. This beautiful townhas a hotel (the Allis House), a Masonic Lodge, 12 district-schools,and an excellent literary institution called The Wesleyan institution was incorporated in 1824, and is governed by aboard of trustees. It has ever been in high repute, and is one of theoldest and best known institutions of its kind in the country. It wasfirst established at Newmarket, , in 1818; but was, through theefforts of Messrs. Calvin Brewer, Abraham Avery, Abel Bliss, and oth-ers, removed to Wilbraham, and re-opened f
