Pvt. A. A. Purst of the Signal Corps, photographed by Capt. William P. Gauss, served as an assistant to the 1st Corps Signal officer at Soissons. The image was taken just after the Americans recaptured the town during World War I. The photograph was passed by the censor, although the date of issuance is unknown.
